This certainly isn"t your normal release. Respublica Mars have decided to release a covers album of tracks by slightly obscure Far Eastern Russian bands (I"m guessing The Hellacopters did a similar thing with their "Head Off" album) and while recording this they also have their next album virtually finished to quickly follow on.
Having your second album as a covers album may be slightly strange but then this band seemingly revel in that idea. They"ve never even met - Yep, technology has taken over and the band all write, record and release material through the genius of the internet.
All sang in Russian the band cite acts such as W.A.S.P., GN"R, and Mötley Crüe as their influences yet they produce what is essentially a brand of "safe" rock.
There"s nothing remotely wrong with any of this album - I"ve no doubt that understanding Russian would aid the listening experience - but there"s also nothing massively jumping out to grab you by the balls either.
The strangely titled "Bruce Willis" is probably the best track on here with undertones of a band such as Faith No More poking through with its heavier basslines and random saxophone addition making it the closest they come to a must-listen to song. It"s a strange concept to listen to a whole album in a foreign language because, ultimately, you really want to know what they"re singing about so the emotions get slightly lost.
With it being a covers album the flow of the album is a touch uneven so it"ll be interesting to see what the band manage to come up with when working on their original material but the fact is that unless you"re Russian, you"re probably not going to be waiting for their next release.

Music From the Underground - From the opening notes off guitar this album takes flight and refuses to come down. With a little bit of Rock n" Roll, a dash of Punk and a twist of Alternative Respublica Mars crank out a killer album that delivers. Mass hooks will pull you in and when the band pauses a second it is only for your sake. Guitars on this record set the new standard in classic tone. Whether it is clean guitar work that sparkles the air around you to the down and dirty grinding rhythm chops you will be hard pressed to stay still. There is a true groove factor that has been missing in Rock for quite some time and Republic Mars is here to fill the void. Lead work sounds as if it is effortlessly flying out of fingers on fire. Bass guitar work hits like a 12 ton concrete hammer. Ballsy and full of power each song is given a strong dose of girth that will have the ladies swinging and thrusting all night long. Backed up against the wall of guitars the bass has plenty of room to breathe and both elements are clearly heard. The interplay is a beautiful sonic dance that help the songs come to full fruition. Backing it all up is the drum work that cracks like a cocking shotgun, and explodes on each track as if the trigger gets pulled as fast as possible. The whole band works together like a well oiled machine and delivers quality Rock on every single song. Up front and in your face are the vocals that with out a doubt hold nothing back. With the right amount of harmony and melody mixed with strutting snarl the vocals will inspire you to get off your seat and sing along. From the opening track of "Hudozhnik" you will be propelled into sheer Rock n" Roll bliss. As things twist a bit on "Willis" you will find yourself on the edge of your seat. "Epoch" will have you rising and wondering what is next and when the other shoe will drop. Soothing Bass lines only fool you till the guitar hammer hits you over the head. A molten metal version of the Blues is dancing on "Crazy". Mellowing acoustic guitars of "Osen" will let you grab your girl and sway her into ecstasy. Rounding out the set is "Coda" that will have you pumping your fists and wanting more. Unfortunately your only recourse it to go back to track one till the next release, but fear not there is plenty of rock to tide your over for quite some time.

Respublica Mars, or РЕСПУБЛИКА МАРС as they are called in Russian, is an alternative hard rock band from Russia. The band living up to 7 hours apart, is an Internet-based band. This means that everything they do is done via the web. The band consists of Fuzzzone (guitar), DAY (vocals), Phil (bass) and Ig (drums). Music From The Underground is the band"s second album consisting entirely of cover songs from other Russian bands. As the band writes in the accompanying press the letter "This is a tribute to bands from the Russian Far East".
All info on the CD cover is in Russian, so for good reasons I can not see what the original band name (but okay, I know also only a Russian band and it"s Gorky Park). Fortunately the band has translated the song titles in the press notice. Музыка Подвалов or Music From The Underground as the English title is composed of 12 alternative hard rock songs where the inspirations are drawn from bands such as Motley Crue, Guns "n" Roses and WASP. The music is in itself very well, but I have not yet got used to that, sung in Russian. There are both quiet rock songs like "Красная осень (Red Autumn)" and "Теряю тебя (Losing You)", but also hard rockers like "Небылицы (Nonsense Stories)", "Эпоха (Escape)" and opening track "Художник (Artist ) ". These songs are some of my personal favorites on the album. In addition there is a song called "Брюс Уиллис (Bruce Willis)", where the band also makes use of the saxophone. I remember also from a plate Bruce Willis himself did back in the 80s.
The music is well played and the production is also excellent. There are a few good guitar solos in some of the songs and the instruments are generally good in the sound of each other. As I said, I have not gotten used to the Russian language and then I"m also not terribly impressed with the vocals. But all in all it is an excellent album that I do not think will get much attention in Europe or the rest of the world. But the band does when they can, inter alia, contacting a page like this and probably several other larger or smaller sites around the world.
I will close by, to use the band"s own slogan "Great songs can be found anywhere", a slogan they have taken from a phrase in Guns "n" Roses cover album "Spaghetti Incident". However, I would not describe the songs as decidedly "great", but they are certainly excelled !!! В нашем мире немало вещей, которые не меняются. Это не то что бы что-то вечное, великое и незыблемое, оно скорее просто присуще человеку и человечеству, как зелёный цвет присущ кустам смородины, а оторвавшаяся подошва - старым ботинкам. И вчера, и позавчера, и тысячу лет назад всё так же светило солнце, шёл дождь, а подростки тусили в подвалах, скверах и парках, пили пиво и слушали хард-рок, наигрывая друг другу на гитарах песни любимых групп и провоцируя приступ мигрени у почтенных и олдовых граждан.
Именно такой набор песен любимых, но не очень известных команд предлагают нам музыканты группы Республика Марс на своём втором альбоме. Проще говоря, это сборник кавер-версий.
На диске с названием ‘Музыка подвалов" вы услышите традиционный русскоязычный hard rock в духе таких групп, как ЛиДер, Джокер, КПП, Э.В.М., Young Guns и других отечественных групп начала 90-х, которые в своих творческих изысканиях ориентировались на Guns"n"Roses, L.A.Guns и Skid Row. При этом материал не звучит как анахронизм и воспринимается на удивление современно и впечатляюще, а причин тому несколько: достаточно харизматичный и запоминающийся вокал, необычные для такой музыки тексты и хороший звук.
Я не большой поклонник подобных групп, но альбом Республики Марс смог несколько раз приятно удивить даже меня, чего стоит хотя бы горячий привет Анатолию Крупнову (Чёрный Обелиск) и его "Дому жёлтого сна" на треке "Брюс Уиллис", – вокальная мелодия этих двух опусов практически идентична, а, учитывая то, что Анатолий с блестящим вариантом причёски действительно был похож на Брюса Уиллиса, даже название звучит и воспринимается забавно.
Дебютная работа Республики Марс ‘Кто-то ушёл…", выпущенная в 2014-м году, была принята достаточно хорошо, но в то же время некоторые нарекания получили несколько неоднозначные тексты. Сейчас на альбоме каверов ‘Музыка Подвалов" ситуация с текстами примерно та же - они по-прежнему "ни о чём и обо всём", хотя многим определённо понравятся как раз своей многогранностью и открытостью для свободных интерпретаций Несомненно одно: адекватный вердикт по текстам вы сможете вынести только сами, прослушав альбом и решив для себя, нравится вам такая лирика или нет.
На мой вкус, альбому недостаёт возвышенности и утончённости, которые мне всегда так нравились у Чёрного Кофе, но это совершенно не может быть записано в недостатки альбома, так как группа изначально ориентируется на другую аудиторию и на другие тексты. Каждому своё. И те, кому Чёрный кофе казался слишком холодным, отстраненным и непонятным, с удовольствием примут и полюбят Республику Марс с их юным задором и хулиганской удалью.
‘Музыка подвалов" звучит немного разнородно и неуверенно, но разнородность - это нечто настолько само собой разумеющееся, если речь идёт о сборнике каверов, что иначе и быть не может, а уверенность приходит только с опытом, и я не сомневаюсь, что уже следующий альбом коллектива будет гораздо более сильным и зрелым, а кто-то уже сейчас полюбит этот Интернет-проект именно за искренность и эмоциональность, которые когда-то так здорово помогли группе Тельфер и другим подобным ансамблям найти своих слушателей.
Как я уже говорил, альбом звучит очень живо и современно, и не только потому, что такая музыка не может устареть, а рок-молодёжь до сих пор слушает тех же "ганзов" или AC/DС. У Республики Марс есть задор, шарм, огонь, искренность – всё то, что обычно обозначают словосочетанием "порох в пороховницах", им есть что сказать и что предложить своим слушателям. Если гранды иноязычного хард-рока кажутся вам чересчур академичными и выверенными, у Республики Марс определённо есть все шансы надёжно обосноваться в вашем плей-листе. И тогда такая музыка будет одинаково уместна и дома, и в наушниках, и в компании, и в собственном исполнении. Особенно в собственном исполнении. Такие песни интересно и приятно петь под гитару, радуя себя и своих друзей. В нашем случае название альбома как никогда точно и удачно характеризует музыкальное содержание релиза – музыка для неформальной молодёжи и нескучных вечеров единомышленников, для тех, кто не только не прочь смотаться секунд на тридцать до Марса, но мог бы обосноваться там и навсегда, организовав собственное поселение или даже федеративную республику. 9/10

-Да,стех пор прошло уже почти восемь лет(без полгода) как лейб FTV Media corp.выпустила в свет "А-КУЛЬТовский"форматник "Интроспекция".Этот альбом очень интимен, скромен, но его внутренняя красота просто поражает. В нем ничего не выпячивается вперед, он подкупает своей мудростью, теплотой, участием и безмерной тактичностью. Тихий, неторопливый,в меру инструментальный и медленный,рационально-минимум экспериментальный."Introspection"- был шагом вперед, ведь, базируясь на тех же основах построения звука, музыканты, упорно генерировавшие новые идеи,как концептуальные так же и технические, замахнулись на более сложную музыку, во многом построенную как классические произведения жанра trip-hop.Спустя такое количество времени с даты релиза этого альбома,понимаешь при очередном его прослушивании:впрочем, ненавидеть такой приятный альбом просто невозможно. Это было экспериментальной музыкой, но не такой, которая существует только ради новизны и не заботится об ушах слушателей, здесь был найден такой разумный компромисс между новизной и гармоничностью, что до сих пор этот альбом кажется современным, а ведь прошло уже почти восемь лет....

You don"t hear about too many bands from Russia for whatever reason, so it was a pleasant surprise to get an email from Ig, drummer with The Republic of Mars, asking me to check out his band.
Now, my Russian isn"t great and Google Translate only gives so much information so information on the band is light! They"re a five-piece and an accomplished hard rock act with a handful of releases out. Most recent of these is their debut album Someone"s Gone (English translation).
All of their songs are in Russian, but – you know – it doesn"t really matter. It"s good, rocking music. Just the sort of thing to whack on when you"re driving or getting ready for a night out. As the name may suggest, it does have a sci-fi edge to it that"s hard to explain. I can just picture videos with rockets and spacemen in. Or maybe I just need some sugar and a lie down.
Production is good – nice and bassy – so it sounds a little heavier than it actually is. I"ve given it a couple of listens through and there"s no tracks that let it down. Every one is energetic, feel-good (although that could be because I don"t understand the words!) and will have your head nodding.

You must have gone through everything once as a reviewer. I"m doing this for several years now, but so far I have not reviewed any Russian band. At least, as far as I can remember. And certainly not a Russian band that sings in Russian. The band"s name, album title, song titles, everything is in Russian. Fortunately, there is an English bio at so we know that the name of this project is Respublika Mars. I emphasize project, because it is not a real band that we"re dealing with here. The members got to know each other over the Internet as making music was their common hobby. Some of the band members live in the far east of the vast country, close to Japan, others live in the middle of the country, near the Black Sea. There are members who live apart for seven ‘flight" hours! That is the main reason that it took no less than three years to write, record and produce "Someone"s Gone".
On twelve songs and a cover of the (unknown?) band Trek, Respublika Mars plays standard heavy rock, the only thing that really stands out is the fact that you cannot understand what they are singing about. The Russian language does not sound really accessible, I must say. And as I said, the riffs, the chord progressions, etc. it all sounds rather mediocre. Exceptions are the occasional surprising contributions from guitarist Fuzz Zone; his solos are well composed and played. Unfortunately I cannot mention the titles of some of the tracks because my keyboard does not know the Cyrillic script. For example, I would have to say that track number four does sound good in terms of guitars, but where the vocals and the lyrics still makes the music hard to listen to. That is a pity. As I said, some guitar contributions are more than nice, but the music of these guys is not properly digest further. Only for fans of the Russian cultural heritage.

Rock music is a universal language right? That"s just as well, because ‘Kto-to Ushol" (‘Someone"s Gone") by Respublika Mars is recorded and presented entirely in Russian. Thank goodness the press release engages in a bit of timely transliteration and translation, because otherwise I"d struggle to tell you anything about this album, including the band name and title, bar the fact that musically it"s rather good.
With a line-up consisting of Ig (drums), Fuzzzone (guitars), DAG (vocals), Nail (keys) and Lark (bass), Respublika Mars deliver an album of 13 tracks of hard rocking, alt.rock-tinged heavy metal that pretty much do what it says (in Russian) on the tin. That said, the predominantly straightforward riff-based rock is supplemented by Fuzzzone"s lively and at times quirky guitar work, DAG"s slightly punky vocals, and some surprising and pleasing songwriting twists. All band members apparently have previous form though "intentionally don"t mention their previous projects in order to avoid associations with their past achievements."
Twelve of the tracks presented here are original band compositions, with the album also including a cover of a Trek song, which was originally called ‘Fucking Crazy" but has here been sensitively re-titled ‘Bitch".
Standouts for me are opener ‘Words Magic", which fair comes racing out of the blocks, the intriguing ‘Somewhere on Mars", the horn-enhanced ‘Relaxa", the more ambitious and slightly ‘progressive" ‘Human Copy" and ‘Not to Forget", and the Doorsy ‘If Love Disappears". I have no idea what they"re singing about (hopefully it"s nothing offensive), but for me the Russian adds to the album"s charm.
With band members geographically dispersed across Russia – from the far east coast to central Russia to the Black Sea, with a seven hour time difference between the extremes of their physical locations – it has taken them over 3 years to record their debut. ‘Someone"s Gone" thus seems to be an album that transcends physical, temporal and linguistic boundaries. It"s a fine effort from a band clearly aiming for the stars, or at least, for one of them.

Что самое ужасное в "русском роке"? Нет, даже и не тексты. Самое ужасное – тотальное отсутствие энергетики у групп данного удивительного стиля. Но ведь так было не всегда – вспомните такие работы, объявляемые краеугольными камнями "русского рока", как "15" "Урфин Джюса" (1982) и "Периферию" "ДДТ" (1983). Сейчас такой же радующий слушателя, понимающего суть рок-музыки, фокус проделывает группа "Республика Марс" – при очень простых песенных структурах и мнимо многозначительных текстах материал альбома "Кто-то ушел…" звучит мощно и захватывающе – только что искры из колонок не сыплются! Честно говоря, еще на полпути к второму куплету открывающего CD номера "Магия слов", в голову приходит единственно возможное определение творчества квинтета как громкого и оптимистичного арена-рока на рок-н-ролльной основе. Ничего, что у нас теперь рок на аренах почти не играют – "Республика Марс" вычислила подачу своего материала явно путем прослушивания заокеанских классиков субстиля 80-х, не забывая при этом о мощных гитарных соло, воздействующих на слушателя в контексте музыки группы куда сильнее текстов. Возможно, вокалисту, скрывающемуся под псевдонимом DAG, следовало бы убавить истеричной подачи, а группе – не ставить подряд в середине альбома три не самых сильных номера, однако эти огрехи искупаются в должной степени отстраненным и ироничным взглядом на собственное ремесло в жесткой пьесе "Твой папа – рок-музыкант" и очень близким к классическому хард-року, стоящим подряд композициям "Копия человека", "Не забыть" и "Если исчезнет любовь", выдающим добротную ориентацию текстов группы на творчество покойного Ильи Кормильцева. Впрочем, последняя из этих трех пьес очень похожа именно на зрелый "Урфин Джюс". Как и большинство отечественных групп и проектов молодого поколения, "Республику Марс" отличает и умение написать хотя бы одну пьесу, без всяких вопросов годную к FM-радиоротации – это полубаллада "Десять песен". Венчает же этот альбом не самая стандартная кавер-версия – "Стерва" полузабытого "Трека" сыграна здесь неистово, с некоторой панк-подачей в духе альбомных ауттэйков хитрых нью-йоркцев Blue Öyster Cult. Остается только удивиться, отчего бы отечественные издатели еще не выстроились в очередь к "Республике Марс"…
